Wesak was celebrated with much joy and devotion this year.
We wish to record our gratitude and appreciation to the Sangha Members of the Thai Forest Tradition led by Luang Por Thoon for their teachings and blessings on Wesak Eve and Wesak Day, Ven. Monks from Sentul Buddhist Temple, YB Jamaliah Jamaluddin who launched our Wesak celebration, our guests of honor, invited guests, Hospital Tengku Ampuan Rahimah, Klang, and Ms Low Mi Yen.
The event started with chanting followed by liberation of the live fish into the creek. Dedication and sharing of merits was done with all who participated for the benefit for all beings. Followed by a breakfast picnic.
In honour of Ajahn Chah, the Bandar Utama Buddhist Society organised the Ajahn Chah Remembrance Day 2018, on Dec 15 and 16 at SJK (C) Puay Chai (2), Bandar Utama, Petaling Jaya, Selangor. The event is supported by the Theravada Buddhist Council of Malaysia and the Young Buddhist Association of Malaysia.
BUBS members and friends recently went on a kathina trip to Wat Phra Chao Ton Luang, a forest monastery in Chiang Mai. Some of the members were kathina sponsors of the event and all took part in the kathina robe offering and rice pindapata in a quiet and serene setting of a forest. The group also visited Wat Aranyawiwake, participated in the kathina ceremony and paid respect to the late Luang Por Plien.
BUBS members and Dhamma School children visited Dhamma Earth Club in conjunction with the Kathina (Robe offering) Day on 6 November 2018.
It was a meaningful trip and allowed all to witness and participate in the significance of the robe offering ceremony, the opportunity to learn more about the lifestyle of the forest monks, perform Dana and listen to Dhamma teachings.
We rejoices with Sis. Siew Swan, Sis. Sharon Soon, Sis. Hoon Eng and Sis Carmen Yap on their short term ordination as a ten precept nun(Sayalay) at DhammaJata Vihara of the Sri Kalyani Yogasrama Samstha /Pa Auk Sayadaw forest lineage.
May their voluntary service to BUBS and the Buddha Sasana support their ordination which they will find beneficial and fruitful. Anumodana and Sadhu Sadhu Sadhu.
Our theme for Wesak 2016 was 'Sharing the Light of Wisdom'. A simple and meaningful way to reflect on the virtue of Wisdom is to offer lights to the Buddha, an act that symbolizes the dispelling of ignorance from our mind. By dispelling the darkness of ignorance, or mind becomes pure and luminous.
I am so glad we made it to the Chiangmai-Mae Hong Son trip. I suppose we were meant to make this journey to Dhammagiri Orphanage and participate in the Kathina. Theresa had asked if we would like to join her and, in her usual calm way, answered all our queries - “You’re sure? But, we don’t know what we should do. What are we getting into?” – encouraging us to go with the flow. We would be amongst two busloads of Buddhists, 65 pax in all. Some had been practising Buddhism since university days, some were pretty young. Amongst my dance buddies, except for Theresa, none of us had been on such a trip.
The Society has come a long way since we started in year 2000. Looking back, there are many people (our Venerable teachers, members, past and present volunteers, contributors/benefactors, donors, well wishers, Dhamma teachers, Dhamma School teachers) and events to whom we are very grateful to.
Hence as part of our 15th anniversary celebration, BUBS celebrated their 15th Anniversary Dinner on 15 August 2015.
