Asalha Puja – Full Moon Day

The Asalha Puja Day is an auspicious day for Buddhists. It is the day the Buddha set in motion the wheel of truth (Dhammachakkappavattana Sutta), the start of Vassa (Rain Retreat), the Sangayawana (the first Buddhist Congregation) and the beginning of Upasampada (Higher Ordination) of the Sangha.

Buddhist monks and nuns traditionally spend Vassa inside the monasteries, dedicating the period to meditation and practice.

It falls on the Full Moon day in July and for 2019 it is on this Wednesday, 17 July.

Members and friends are encouraged to attend the Full Moon Puja on this Wednesday, 17 July 2019 at 8.30 pm where the Dhammachakkappavattana Sutta will be chanted. You may bring flowers and fruits for offering.
