This year’s Wesak Theme is “Peaceful Heart, Joyful Living”. We are glad to inform you that we have lined up programmes for this coming 25 - 26 May 2021, Wesak Eve and Wesak Day respectively. There will be Wesak Puja, Itipiso Chanting, and Dhamma talks during these 2 days.

Biography of Venerable Chao Khun Keng

Venerable Chao Khun Vinayadhamma Vidhes a.k.a Ajahn Keng is a Singaporean monk from the Thai Forest Tradition of Ajahn Mun Buridatto. He was ordained in 1987 under the recommendation of Ajahn Geoffrey (Thanissaro Bhikkhu). Luang Phor Jiak Cundo, the later generation of Luang Pu Mun disciples, was also one of his teachers. He was conferred the title of Chao Khun in 2013 by the King of Thailand. Currently, Chao Khun Keng is the Abbot of 宁心寺 Santi Forest Monastery Official and President of Palelai Buddhist Temple (Singapore) and Wat Pa Doi Charen Tham at Omkoi.

Background of Tan Ajahn Dhammasiha

Tan Ajahn Dhammasiha was born in West Germany on Dec 5, 1966. After finishing High School and serving as a conscript in the German armed forces, he studied business administration in West Berlin from 1987 to 1993. During field research in India in 1994 for a PhD on "Indian Corporate Culture", he read the Dhammapada which hit him as a true revelation. He was ordained in Sri Lanka in 1995 with Most Ven Pandita K Sri Jinavarisa. For 3 years he trained at Nissarana Vana, Meetisigala, a forest monastery dedicated to solitary practice of meditation and meticulous observance of the Theravada Vinaya. In 1998, he went to Australia and trained at Bodhiyana Monastery and Vimokkharam Forest Hermitage in Melbourne. During this period, he received teachings from some of the foremost living teachers of the Thai Forest tradition such as LP Tui and LP Plien.

Tan Ajahn Dhammasiha arrived in Brisbane in 2007 at the invitation of the Brisbane Buddhist Vihara to help establish a forest monastery in Brisbane. He is now the abbot of Dhammagiri Forest Hermitage, Brisbane, Australia.

Background of Tan Ajahn Maha Dton

Tan Ajahn Maha Dton was born in Chonburi, Thailand, in 1967. He graduated as a medical student in Thailand. After graduation, he continued with his medical studies from 1994 to 1997 in the American Board of Pediatrics from Children Hospital of Michigan under a scholarship provided by the government of Thailand. During this period, he was awarded The Best of hospitality Winner.

After he completed his PhD, he found himself in a meditation retreat in US under the guidance of Tan Ajahn Jayasaro, the Abbot of Wat Pah Nanachat. Through this retreat, though he was still a lay person then, he realized that the monastic life is what he had been looking for.

Tan Ajahn Maha Dton returned to Thailand and went forth in Wat Pah Nanachat. With perseverance, he completed a Buddhist course which entitled him the honour of a “Maha”. (“Maha signifies proficiency in Grade 3 Pali). At present, he is the Buddhist adviser and meditation instructor in hospitals, government departments and schools in the vicinity of Wat Pah Bun Lom

Wesak Day commemorates three important events in the life of the Buddha: his birth as Prince Siddhartha, his Enlightenment and his passing away at the age of eighty.
