Sutta Study Online Series by Benny Liow

The Buddha’s Words is an introductory course on the teachings about kamma and rebirth as found in the Majjima Nikāya of the Pāḷi Canon. The message in the Buddha’s discourses or suttas is that kamma follows us wherever we go – so we should, therefore, be extremely careful with our actions through our body, speech, and mind. In this six-week program, the following six suttas are selected for discussions:

  1. Abhayarājakumāra Sutta, MN 58 (what is right speech)

  2. Ambalaṭṭhikārāhulovāda Sutta, MN 61 (the dangers of lying)

  3. Cūḷakammavibhaṅga Sutta, MN 135 (good begets good, bad begets bad)

  4. Mahā Kammavibhaṅga Sutta, MN 136 (the complexities of kamma)

  5. Saṅkhāruppatti Sutta, MN 120 (rebirth through aspirations)

  6. Sāleyyakā Sutta, MN 41 (one’s action determines one’s future rebirth)
