About Ven. DhammaSiri
Born in 1970, Bhikku DhammaSiri started practising MahàYàna Buddhism in 1986. He ordained as a MahàYànaBhikku whilst studying and working for a few years in a Buddhist University in Taiwan in 1993.
In 1997, Bhikku DhammaSiri reordained as a TheraVàda Bhikkhu under the Ajahn Mun tradition, spending his first Vassa with Ajahn GanHah and his second Vassa in Pa Auk Tawya Monastery. Due to poor health, he disrobed in 1999. He was re-ordained as a ten-precept Anàgàrika by Most Ven. Na-Uyane Ariya DhammaMahaThera in Sri Lanka and by end 1999, he received Sàmanera ordination under the preceptorship of Most Ven. K. Jinavaüsa MahàThera, the founder of the Yogàshràma tradition.
Between 2001 – 2005, Bhikku DhammaSiri engaged himself with intensive meditation and Vinaya studies in Sri Lanka, Burma and China. He also began compiling TheraVàda meditation manuals and translating Vinaya literature.
Since 2011, he has been conducting the “Novitiate Programme” in NàUyana International Meditation Center and also the Overseas Dhamma Program.
In 2016, two bungalows were offered by his devotees for the setting up of DhammaJàta Vihàra in Penang and in 2017, Bhikku DhammaSiri was appointed abbot of DhammaJàta Vihàra. At present, apart from his own meditation schedule, Ven. DhammaSiri’s work focuses on the training of lay Buddhist priests and new ordination aspirants in the Yogàshràma tradition.
