Biodata:
Ven. Ajahn Martin was born in Stuttgart, Germany, in 1957. He studied electrical engineering and went to the USA to extend his studies in computer engineering with a Fulbright scholarship. He discovered meditation at the end of the 1980s and started living in various Theravada monasteries in England and Germany.
He arrived at Wat Pa Baan Taad under Luang Ta Mahā Bua, Thailand, and was ordained as a Buddhist monk in December 1995 in the forest monastery. Ajahn Martin went on tudong for 2-5 months each year and meditated 14 hours every day. He stayed at Wat Pa Baan Taad for many years and in the jungles of Thailand for over 20 years in the Thai Forest Tradition.
In 2004, Ven. Ajahn Paññavaddho, who was responsible for instructing Western/ foreign lay visitors at Wat Pa Baan Taad, passed away. The teaching responsibility of lay visitors was then shared between Ven Ajahn Dick and Ven. Ajahn Martin. After Ven. Ajahn Dick left the monastery in 2007, Ven. Ajahn Martin carried the sole responsibility of teaching lay visitors the Dhamma and meditation.
He is currently the Abbot of Wat Phu Khong Tong in Nong Bua Lam Phu province.
